Stuart’s expertise lies in financial transaction communications and corporate issues management.
Prior to recently joining Gavin Anderson & Company, Stuart provided counsel to a range of clients including Macquarie Goodman Management in its merger with the Macquarie Goodman Industrial Trust, Allco Finance Group on the initial public offering of Allco Equity Partners, Burswood in its defence of PBL’s hostile takeover, Epic Energy on its $2.4bn asset sale, Novus Petroleum in its defense of multiple hostile takeover bids, Telstra in relation to its share buy-backs, Repco on its initial public offering, Brickworks on its bid for Bristile, CPHIC on its merger with Challenger and Burns Philp on the acquisition of Goodman Fielder.
Stuart also advised Deloitte Trowbridge during the Special Commission of Inquiry into the establishment and funding of James Hardie’s Medical Research and Compensation Foundation.
Before his career in corporate communications, Stuart spent six years in investment banking and private equity with Macquarie Bank Limited’s Telecommunications, Media, Entertainment and Technology group in Australia, Malaysia and the US, including two years as the joint head of the bank’s San Francisco office.
Transactions in which Stuart was involved include APN News and Media’s acquisition of the Australian Radio Network, Independent News & Media’s sale of Wilson Horton, the initial public offerings of Altium, Citect and Looksmart (ASX and NASDAQ), and the conception, structuring and marketing of the Macquarie Technology Funds. Stuart also acquired experience in MBOs, privatisations, restructurings, asset sales, structured finance and specialised funds creation and management.
Stuart holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) with merit and a Bachelor of Laws, both from the University of NSW, as well as postgraduate qualifications in law from the University of Technology, Sydney and in finance from the University of California, Berkeley.
