Heather Butler has been an elected member for the seat of Lyons since May 2005. Since elected Heather has constantly travelled throughout the electorate meeting with constituents to discuss their issues .
Her background is in social work, tourism and education. Heather has worked in Tasmania, Queensland and Victoria. A board position on the TT Line between 1999–2005 saw Heather qualify as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She was a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers 1988-2004. Heather was also admitted to the Tasmanian Honour Roll for Women in May 2005 in recognition for her outstanding accomplishments and contribution to the Tasmanian community .
With her husband Heather has run tourism businesses on the East Coast of Tasmania over the last fifteen years. Extensive involvement in community groups in tourism, with the Neighbourhood House, Youth, Natural Resource Management, Rural Health Network and the East Coast Counselling Service have provided Heather with the impetus to strive for improved relationships between community and government. Heather and husband Geoff have three children who all live in Tasmania and six grandchildren. She was educated at the Universities of Tasmania, Melbourne and Queensland. Her interests include family history, knitting, gardening and travel. She is a member of the St Helens Uniting Church.
LYONS
Lyons has an area of approximately 40 604 sq km and is the largest division in Tasmania covering most of the State from the west to the east coasts and from Beaconsfield township in the north to New Norfolk and the Tasman Peninsula region in the south. The main towns include Beaconsfield, Brighton, Campbell Town, Deloraine, Evandale, Exeter, Fingal, Longford, Midway Point, New Norfolk, Oatlands, Perth, Queenstown, Rosebery, Richmond, St Helens, Swansea, Sheffield, Sorell, Triabunna and Westbury.
Products and industries of the area cover fishing, forestry, wool, cattle (dairy and beef), fruit, wine, hydro-power generation, mining and tourism.
