Fiona Crawford

Supervising Producer ABC TV's Stateline in Queensland

Fiona rose through the ranks of the ABC in Queensland to become the editor of news and current affairs. Overseeing Stateline's editorial content is one of her many responsibilities. Fiona's career began in 1982 when, at the age of 20, she started as a cadet journalist with the Daily Sun newspaper in Brisbane. In 1984 she also completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Postgraduate Honours), majoring in Japanese language and journalism. The next year Fiona worked as a public relations officer for the Australian pavilion at Expo '85 in Japan, continuing the role at Expo '86 in Canada. Fiona then returned to Brisbane as a senior journalist and bulletin producer for the Ten Network. In 1990 she worked in Tokyo as a satellite producer for Reuters TV, before embarking on a career with the ABC in Brisbane the following year. For six years Fiona was a senior journalist and bulletin producer for ABC TV Queensland, while completing a Bachelor of Business Degree (Postgraduate Honours). She was then appointed executive news producer, with responsibility for the 7pm bulletin, assigning stories, sub-editing scripts and assessing the performance of reporters. In 2000 Fiona took up her current role as Queensland editor of news and and current affairs, managing about 80 staff across the State, and supervising all radio and television news and current affairs content. She has pursued her career, managing a heavy workload, while a single mother of twin boys, Lachlan and Fraser.
