Ms Jennie Granger

Second Commissioner of Taxation, Compliance

During Jennie Granger’s 20-year career with the Tax Office, the organisation has changed a lot and so has she. Career highlights for Jennie so far have included establishing a new office, running the international desk, and setting up a think tank to imagine what the world might look like in 2015.

In the early part of her career, Jennie worked in conventional tax technical areas but later moved to less traditional areas, including the Child Support Agency and the superannuation area.

In 1993 Jennie was given responsibility for establishing our Wollongong branch, where she became its first Deputy Commissioner.

She then moved to head up our international tax area, where she stayed for two years. This area represents us at international forums such as the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), negotiates tax treaties, and develops education and compliance strategies for taxing cross-border activities. Jennie also established our Strategic Learning Network to develop scenarios of possible futures for the office.

Jennie’s next appointment was as Deputy Commissioner of our personal tax area, focusing on the 8.5 million salary/wage earners and investors in Australia.

In early September 2002, Jennie was appointed as Second Commissioner in charge of our compliance program. This program develops and implements strategies to ensure taxpayers comply with their tax obligations, whether they are a home-based business or a large international corporation.

Jennie holds a Bachelor of Arts and Law from the University of NSW and a Graduate Diploma in Management.
