Melinda JamesPresenter ABC TV's Stateline program from Darwin Melinda James had a broad-ranging career in social work and higher education before becoming a journalist. She was awarded an ABC cadetship in 2001. During her time in the Sydney newsroom, she worked in radio and television news, radio current affairs and The 7:30 Report. Melinda moved to Darwin in 2002 to cover Territory politics and general news, and later became the weekend newsreader. Melinda says the Northern Territory with its diverse cultural make-up, its landscape and rich history provides reporters with a constant source of fascinating stories, and Stateline is the perfect forum to reflect Territory life. Melinda is particularly looking forward to 2005, with a Territory election looming, the trial of the man accused of murdering British backpacker Peter Falconio, and several major infrastructure projects, such as the Wickham Point gas plant, due to start operating, all promising to make the year an exciting one.
