Nick Maher joins Gavin Anderson with more than 20 years experience as a journalist, senior political adviser and consultant. As a media advisor to the former Victorian Premier Jeff Kennett and later as Chief of Staff to the Treasurer Alan Stockdale, Nick gained extensive experience in communication and regulatory issues involving electricity and gas privatisation.
He was also responsible for the communication campaigns for the restructuring and subsequent privatisation of the Victorian public transport system, the introduction of user-pays water pricing, and other government enterprise restructuring programs.
In the area of Crisis and Issues Management, Nick was responsible for government communication during Victoria’s gas industry crisis in 1998, when gas supplies were shutdown to industry and residential consumers for two weeks. He was also the senior media advisor to the Victorian Police Minister during the “police shooting crisis” in the mid 1990s which led to the complete retraining of the Victorian Police Force.
As a consultant, Nick has devised communication programs for a number of IPOs, including e-health offering IBA Technologies which successfully raised $57 million in early 2000. He has also provided communications advice to Australia Post on
e-commerce, United Energy and Kraft.
Previously, Nick was a political journalist in Queensland, and worked as a press secretary to three Queensland Liberal Leaders, including the former State Treasurer Joan Sheldon.
