Quentin McDermott
Quentin came to the ABC in 1999 as Lateline's Supervising Producer, with a background of 25 years spent working for magazines, local and national newspapers, and television in the United Kingdom.
Quentin spent six years working for Granada Television’s World in Action. He was part of the team who investigated and exposed Conservative Cabinet Minister Jonathan Aitken’s links with the Saudi Royal Family. The investigation, carried out in partnership with The Guardian newspaper, eventually led to a libel action brought by Mr Aitken, which Granada TV and The Guardian successfully defended. Mr Aitken later went to jail for perjury.
Quentin came to Four Corners in 2000 and during his time as a reporter and producer, he has been a finalist in the Walkley Awards three times. He has also been nominated in the Logies, the Human Rights & Equal Opportunity Commission’s Television Award, and the United Nations Association of Australia’s Media Peace Awards.
His Four Corners credits include "Party Tricks", an exposé of the efforts used to discredit former Prime Minister Paul Keating, which he produced in 2001; plus his 2004 report, "A Case to Answer", which challenged the decision of the Queensland DPP not to send swimming coach Scott Volkers to trial to answer charges of molesting young swimmers in his care.
