Tasmanian Labor member for Denison. Labor Party website before the March 2006 election contained the following biographical notes:

Lisa Singh is a 34 year old mother of two sons who lives in New Town. She was born and educated in Denison and completed a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree at the University of Tasmania in 1996.
Lisa is a compassionate person who cares and understands what the real issues that matter to families and wants to support their needs.
She has shown she is skilled in representing people through the various leadership roles she has held in work and the community over the years.
Lisa is currently the manager of arts@work, a business unit of Arts Tasmania, in the Government Department of Tourism, Parks, Heritage and the Arts.
And she is the Convenor of the Australian Republican Movement, Tasmanian branch.
Lisa has worked in public relations, the community sector and the union movement, as well as an adviser to both Federal and State Labor members of parliament.
Lisa has been actively involved in various community organisations over the years and vocal in the peace movement.
Lisa was Hobart Citizen of the Year in 2004 for her community work in the area of peace and she has continued that role as President of the United Nations Association.
Lisa has a long involvement in politics and the ALP. She is the current President of the ALP’s New Town branch and was the Secretary of the branch for over four years. She holds elected positions on committees of the ALP and is the chair of one of the ALP’s platform policy committees.
She has been a women’s rights activist in the areas of women’s health and women and work, and was the former Director of the Tasmanian Working Women’s Centre. She is currently a board member of the Hobart Women’s Health Centre.
Lisa recently returned from China where she solely represented the United Nations Association of Australia at an International Symposium on UN Reform and presented a paper on the role of Civil Society in the United Nations.
Lisa’s focus has always been based on issues regarding social justice, be it at home or globally.
She is currently an active member of various local community groups including Amnesty International, TasCAHRD, the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), the United Nations Association Tasmanian Division, and more, and she always plays an active role in Human Rights Week.
Most importantly, Lisa is dedicated to giving people in the community a voice to be heard within Government where their issues can be acted upon.
It is Lisa’s hope to be the next Labor Member for Denison to stand up for people’s rights so that no one is disadvantaged in our community.

DENISON

Denison covers an area of approximately 221 sq km from Austins Ferry in the north to Taroona in the south, from Hobart in the east to Collinsvale in the west. The City of Hobart and environs and the City of Glenorchy are in this division.

Products and industries of the area cover banking and retail, chocolate and confectionery, catamaran construction, beers, fruit juices, zinc, steel mesh and rods, hand tools, food and timber processing, heavy transport, wholesale trade, engineering works, glass products and port facilities at Hobart.
