Cr Henk van de Ven

Councillor Albury City

Henk van de Ven was born in Holland in 1950, and migrated to Australia in 1958 with his family as unassisted migrants.

He lived in Melbourne until 1985 then moved to Albury. He was educated through the Catholic School system and matriculated (HSC) in 1968, then attending University studying Agricultural Science for 2 years until his father became critically ill for 10 months.

Cr. van de Ven was called up for National Service in 1971, joined the Officer Cadet School at Portsea but was injured during a sporting event and spent the rest of his National Service in the CMF (Army Reserve).

He started his working career as a Computer Programmer with Murray Goulburn in Melbourne in 1972, and the next 13 years were spent in the computer industry. He moved to Albury in 1985 to start a business and stayed here.

He married a local girl, Sue, in 1988 and they have a daughter, Melinda. He enjoys all sports but basically only plays golf now.

Cr. van de Ven says "I stood for council to try to make a difference, and I hope I can."

On Council, Cr van de Ven is on the Aboriginal Liaison Committee, the Albury Hume Culcairn Fire Consultative Committee, the Audit Committee, the Australian Airport Owner Association, the General Manager Liaison Committee, and Sports Albury Advisory Committee.
