Whatever Happens to Old Treasurers?

Thursday, 13th July, 2006

If Peter Costello is considering his life after politics, perhaps he should make a call to John Dawkins who is a happy member of the club of former Treasurers. The Owl knows that because the man who did Paul Keating's dirty work when it came time to break an L.A.W. election promise all those years ago is now a grape grower of distinction in South Australia's Eden Valley.

Luckily there's the chairmanship of a bank and a few consultancies to pay the bills in these times of falling grape prices but the Dawkins Vineyard is producing fruit of great quality.

My brother David and I were impressed enough to have his chardonnay made in to the first wine to carry our own VGM (Vineyard, Grower, Maker) label.

Before you panic at the thought of Farmer feet being involved in crushing the crop, I hasten to add that Barossa wine maker of the year in 2005, Christa Binder Deans, guided the Dawkins grapes from juice through to finished product.

The finished product is as good a value wine as David and I ever offered in Canberra at Farmer Bros. Surely it is a must have product for every political wine drinker!

You can order through the Glug website and if you have any trouble call me on my mobile at 0422 083 285.
