Media Thin Skins on Display

Friday, 30th June, 2006

Two amusing displays this week of the reason that journalists and commentators are on the nose.

Channel Nine goes to court to try and prevent details being published by others of its internal workings. Broadcaster Alan Jones threatens legal action to stop publication of a book about him and the ABC caves in to the threats and withdraws as the publisher.

All this from a cast of players who when dealing with others pretend that freedom of the press is some vital component of a democratic society.

What a pity that Liberal and Labor cannot get together for once and jointly agree on changes to laws controlling the media and, to use an Eddyism, bone all the proprietors.
