Where and What the Jobs Are

The economists and politicians are prone to talking about a shortage of skilled workers but this week's figures show that the overwhelming majority of job vacancies in Australia are for clerks, shopkeepers and warehouse workers.

A decade ago the picture was a little different. The retail trade had the most vacancies followed by manufacturing industry.

When it comes to the location of the jobs available to be filled we see a repeat of the increasingly common picture of Queensland and Western Australia becoming increasingly important as New South Wales and Victoria decline.
