A State of Discontent

Thursday, 18th May, 2006

On one of my rare visits to Sydney recently I was surprised at the extent of the dissatisfaction with the state Labor government among my friends and acquaintances.

Top of the list of complaints was the cross city tunnel but a little probing suggested that was merely the current symptom of a belief that the government considered had grown both tired and arrogant.

Now it seems that tiredness and arrogance is leading to a panic that sees party bosses lashing out as they try to blame someone other than themselves.

Kim Beazley is the current victim with real or imagined polling being bandied around that says he is the cause of Labor’s problems in NSW.

The truth of the matter is that the state Labor Government is the cause of Beazley’s problems. He, or whoever does lead the party, should be hoping that there is a NSW Liberal Government at the time of the next Federal election.
